Activities



Health day : There was health day on 29th October 2013. Children were taught healthy habits of using a napkin to avoid the spilling the food on their dresses and have their tiffin. They were instilled all the good habits of maintaining their nails regularly by trimming them and about everyday bathing etc. Cleanliness of the children was checked.

Drawing competition : Camlin had organized a competition of ‘picture colouring’ for our students. All the students participated with great enthusiasm. The best three colouring were chosen and the prizes were given to them..

Fete (18th December) : On the occasion of sharing day on this year we organized fete in which the KG teachers brought Chowmin, gulab jammun, cold drinks, fish finger and chicken pakora for the students. Money was collected previous day from the children and the food was provided. They all enjoyed the food.

Apple Day (10th January 2014) : Children were asked to bring apples. The children were told about its colour and described its importance in everyday life. Marian toddlers will give 100 % attendance as they understood the proverb “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.

Singing Competition (28th April) : There was a singing competition organized in the school for the students. The participants sang folk and patriotic songs in vernacular language. This activity will play a pivotal role in their life as they understood the value of our traditional songs through folk and invoked the patriotic spirit through patriotic songs and as they sang in vernacular language that instilled in them the love for their languages the qualities that the students lack in this westernized world. Apart from that the toddlers were given the encouragement to nurture their inborn talent of singing. Prizes were given class wise. With one activity the teachers instilled four qualities in their mind.

Flag Day (14th August) : The ‘flag day’ is usually celebrated just ahead of the Independence Day to enhance the general knowledge of our tiny tots about our tri-colour National flag. Thus, they were instructed to bring a flag on this day and draw a picture of it on their copies. They were emphasized the importance of the tri-colour and the chakra and the significance of the flag. They were elucidated that one should look up to the flag with great pride and respect and that it is a symbol of our Nation. The day ended by memorizing tunes of the patriotic songs for them by the teachers.

Dance Competition (28th April 2014) : A dance competition was organized inside the campus. The theme for this event was “The traditional India”. The programme was mind-blowing, needless to say, which put the teachers in a difficult status quo to judge the winners. They were given accolades in the form of awards.

Fancy Dress (22nd August 2014) : A fascinating Fancy dress was organized. Children gave a scintillating performance in different attires. The selected students were asked to say a few words about the personality who they epitomized.

Recitation Competition. : Our educators allowed the students to choose their own poems and emboldened them to build up a range and a level of complexity keeping in mind the long poems are not always the most complex. Thus the tiny tots exhibited their talents and skilled themselves with the recitation skills.

Flag day (25th November ) : Students of class IX and X went around the neighborhood went along with Mrs. Meena and Mr. Rajkumar to collect money for this nobel cause. The amount was sent to the organisation along with three best drawings from “Sit and Draw Competition” that was conducted on the Flag Day.

Sharing Day/Fete : The “sharing day” unveiled its meaning in a unique way. It took the form of a “fete” with a difference where the teachers went an extra mile to impress the students and thus cooked some spicy and trendy favourite food items on the spot for the students and put up stalls. The primary stall had a number of items like Burgers, gajar ka halwa, vegetable pakora, chicken pakora, jhal- muri.

The secondary students sold dahi vada, googni, lemon water, panipuri, masala chat and the bread toast. There was a heavy rush for the Biriyani, which was exclusively ordered from a reputed restaurant for our beloved students which was sold on almost marginal-profit basis. The students’ demand for buying was more that the teachers had to buy the ingredients again , prepared and the service was extended even at the last minute. There was a suggestion that this should be conducted twice in a year and not once in a year as per the connoisseur of food of our school. The coupon system helped to organize the fete well. It was a great day as the educators played the role of the chefs and d the learners were hunting for their favourite items.

Excursion : A nature study camp to Jharkhali ,Sundarban organised by Chetna Samannaya was attended by our students and the Art and Craft teacher. The camp included the identification of birds, trees, butterflies and insects, prelim trekking experience, compass and map making, navigating the night sky. Telescope by the amaetuer astronomers and special coverage on mangrove ecosystem guided by distinguished experts . The students who participated were Mangal Mohit Singh, Arijit Kanrar, Sudeept Suman Pradhan from class VII -A , Akash Kumar Bhagat from class VII-B and Saloni Shaw from class IV- C. It was a great experience and an excellent exposure for the students.

Basic Rock Climbing Course: : It was organised by the Santragachi Shailosathi at Matha Buru , Purulia. The students who participated were Soumyadip Soren, Bidisha Biswas, Akash Deria, Anjulisha Singha and Souparna Biswas ofclass VII and Megjit Chowdhury class IV alongwith Mr Bishwajit Chowdhury our Art teacher. This was also a thrilling experience for the students to learn rock climbing.

Handwriting Competition : Handwriting implies the qualities of a person and it is utmost important to emphazise the need of legible writing in the prescribed style.

With regard to this a handwriting competition was held in English, Hindi and Bengali for the students of classes I to IV. The students enthusely participated and instilled the spirit of good writing skills. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were given to the best students.

Olympiad Competition : Olympiad on Maths, Science, English and Computer was held . Number of participants were as follows-

Maths- 93, Science- 45, Computer- 14 and English- 12.
Children performed well and few of them qualified for the 2nd level.
Participants were awarded with a certicate and the toppers from each class were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
Omkar Makar (class II), Srija Chakraborty (class II) and Rishav Bhowmik (class II) were awarded with a prize of wrist watch as they got 4th Rank at the International level at the 2nd stage.

Spell Bee- Primary : Spell Bee competition was held by the English Wizards Foundation, which helps the students to learn, compete and develop their language skill to progress at their own pace needed for academic success. There are various rounds of competition which involves vocabulary, word application, synonyms and anotonyms, use of phrasal verbs , crossword puzzles etc., making it comprehensive in terms of measuring the English Language Skills of the students.

English Literary Association : PRIMARY English association helps the students to bring about different emotions and a general sense of spiritual well-being.

Classes V-VII - Spell Bee, Declamation, Recitation, Quiz. to encourage the students and boost their confidence. Stress was given for recitation.

SECONDARY Class VIII to X: Class IX and X students conducted a Quiz with the help of the English teachers. An unending series of Shakespeare plays, The Macbeth, The Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night’s dream were enacted and thus the audience were transported to the Elizabethan times of Shakespeare. The poems were enacted by students. By memorizing and reciting students internalize the author’s message and further explore phrases and lines they could not master initially.

The Debate: As the Worldcup football was in the airs the topic was “Which Sports is more famous in India – Cricket or Football”.

Mr.Arindam our PT teacher, was the judge, he gave an appropriate verdict.

Slogan Writing Competition : A slogan writing competition was held in our school for students of classes VIII-X. The students had writing excellent slogans on the topic patriotism. The best three slogans from each class were appreciated, also awarded with certificates and prizes.

QUIZ COMPETITION : Students of class IX Sourya Bera and Soham Bhattacharya attended a quiz at R.N.Singh Memorial School conducted by ASISC, WBC. They fared well.

Creative writing : Creative writing competition has been held in the school campus. On the spot the topics were given to the students from classes V- X. This brought out the budding talents in midst of many.

Debate Competition on : Sarthak Guhathakurtha of IX B , Sumanta Saren of IX B , participated in the Debate Competition at EL Bethel School, Kolkata and enriched their knowledge in debate.

Commerce Field Activity : An educational tour was organized by the school for the commerce students to visit the “Future educare Private Limited”. who deals with manufacturing of copies. The students have learnt a chapter on Industry and commerce and this tour was enriching and an eye-opener for them to know more details of publishing business. The latest machines installed in the factory were shown to the students and they were enlightened with the method of printing and binding of copies in huge quantities . Mr.Rajesh Roy the Quality Manager , Mr.Keshav Agarwal and Mr.Krishna Kumar Agarwal, Director interacted with the students very effectively and they took immense pain to explain the students the minute details of the operation of the machines. Children were asked to maintain Time Management and to work hard in whatever subjects they had taken as their stream and emphasized the need of Economics in every one’s life as money plays a great role in one’s life. Students raised many questions which were answered by the concerned authorities very patiently. The teachers Mrs.Meenakumari, Mrs.Jayashree Ghosh , Mrs.Josephine, Mr.Rajkumar, Mr.Arindam, Miss Grace along with Principal Sr.Madona and Sr.Arulmozhi took the responsibility on their shoulders to make this happen.

Visit To The Home Of The Disabled : From the factory, Sr.Madona along with Grace and Jayashree visited a home for the mentally retarded people at a distance of 2 Km. The home is run by a group of sisters who have selflessly dedicated their lives for these unfortunate souls.

WWF Competition



WWF organised a competition where students from our school participated in "Go as you like" & "Sit and draw". The Secretary and the officer in charge of the police was present. For "Go as you like" Riddhi Maity of 3B, Arani Patra of 4A, Streetama Das of 4B Secured first, second and third respectively. For sit and draw competition Anwesa Das of 6B, Riona Chakraborty of 7, Ahana Biswas of 6A Secured first, second and third respectively.

Games



Our School cricket Team participated in The Howrah Commissionerate Cricket Tournament that was inaugurated on 1st of April 2017 in Asian International School Howrah. Our team enthusiastically played their matches on the 7th, 8th and 11th of April 2017.

Inter House Quiz Competition



There was a Inter House Quiz Competition for classes 5-8 organised on 20th of April 2017. The Quiz Masters Adrita Laha and Soham Bhattacharya of Class 12 entralled the audience and the participants. The students were promt enough to answer the question. Battling through, the students of Red House proved to be the Champions for the day.
